The reactor accident in what we in Sweden called Tjernobyl (Chornobyl in Ukrainian) on 26 April 1986 when Reactor 4 at the nuclear power plant, Vladimir Ilich Lenin NPP exploded due to handling errors and poor design, is for many people, an unimaginable event no matter what attitude you have or had to nuclear power and different political systems.

The accident gave very serious consequences for humans, animals and the environment locally and very far away, including abandoned town Pripjat (Pripyat) that at the time of the accident had approx. 50 000 inhabitants. Even outside the immediate area and at great distances, the accident immediately and for a very long time was affecting many people's health and behavior. There are many places in the area that we now can visit, provided you know where. Radiation doses in many places in the Chernobyl area will however be harmful to us humans for a very long time to come.

On this web site are mainly pictures from travels in the area, where the first visit occurred in spring 2010. After the first has three more visits to the area been made. A few pictures comes from other photographers. Some pictures may appear to be arranged, and it is also. Not by me but by photographer / filmmaker who for some reason want to make the atmosphere more "something". However, I think that reality will be good enough as is.
